While our cup has never runneth over, neither has it physically shrunk. Until now. Deep-sea adventurer and tropical drink fan Koral Gabik — who is also an accomplished artist, as you can see from the portrait of the Bum he drew on the styrofoam cup pictured above — recently did some work in the Gulf Of Mexico, where he submerged this cup a full mile under the sea. Hydrostatic pressure squeezed all the air out of the styrofoam, shrinking it from 6 inches to 2 1/2 inches in height. Which leads the Bum to wonder: Is there no place on earth where he cannot expect diminishing returns?
