It seems Boston has finally begun to atone for the damage its missionaries did to Hawaii when they landed there in 1819, burned every tiki they could find, and clothed every wahine they could convert. Reparations appeared today in the form of a Boston Herald article heralding our favorite neo-exotica band, Waitiki, and their new album Rendezvous In Okonkuluku. The article even printed the recipe for a cocktail we created in Waitiki’s honor, the Okonkulukooler.
For those of you who don’t subscribe to the Herald (for shame! Oh, wait, neither do we), here’s how to make an Okonkulukooler: Into your cocktail shaker pour 1 ounce unsweetened pineapple juice, 3/4 ounce fresh lemon juice, 1/2 ounce Chambord, 1 ounce white Puerto Rican rum, and 1/2 ounce dark Jamaican rum. Shake like hell with ice cubes. Strain into a cocktail glass. Sip while listening to Waitiki’s lead vocalist, Drank Sumatra, sing about Rum Barrels and Shrunken Skulls.
